windows restarting

hi my machine is on windows 2000, and when i turn it on it gets to the load screen, the blue bar gets rfull 100 % and then it restarts?i dont want to wipe my hard drive and start again, it does the same thing in safe mode, anyone know how to help?

Sounds like you HDD could be dead, you might have heard a pinging noise if so.

What is happening is your machine is stuck in the boot sequence and is looping. The only way to sort this is either through installing windows again, trying to repair through booting from the CD, or replace the HDD. The only one that will definately work is replacing the HDD

thats what i was thinking, ddnt hear any noise, but it is a continual loop of starting then restarting at the same point, tried to make it a slave drive aswell, but although it sees it in the bios will not show up in my computer

If youve got a spare HDD lying around try putting that in and see if it works.

If not then its probs your Mobo, but personally I think its the HDD, they dont cost a fortune to replace though, just a shame about your previous data

yea my other hard drive works, only bought this hdd this week so can have it replaced under wearranty, just gave it a shake and definitely something loose in there, cheers for your help
