No idea what to aim to buy?

steve-L has got it correct. You will probably make many costly mistakes in the first car, so buy cheaply. Every one I know has damaged to some extent their first car within a year.
Embarrassing but true....
After telling my OH this I backed into a bollard in her car! (Not serious but ....)
Since then however she has quite a few little scrapes which at least lets me off the hook
The point is as we obviously agree, a few scrapes can really affect trade in.... so why pay more when you can by one with a couple of minor ones whilst you being the real leaning to drive process (after passing your test)
We probably lost £1000 trade in on a £4000 car by me reversing into the bollard as the boot door is ever so slightly bent and this stops it shutting automatically. I can buy a used door for £150 and
fit it but it will be a weekends work with the electronics, transfer glass etc. for something that is pure cosmetics.
Regardless of legal tests for trailers I would caution any non-experienced driver .... until you can drive confidently even towing one forwards is an invitation to an accident, let alone learning to reverse one.0 -

Some time ago a colleague got a new cmax on PCP. The companies underground parking is a bit tight, so gave him the spiel about new card and judging distances. I got the impression after hearing my opinion he wanted me to perform an impossible sexual act on myself.
3 weeks later...... I told him to leave the scratches and dents and dents because it is (a) still a new car and (b) he will have to pay again when the car goes back as the PCP company really stuffed over its customers.
So he got it fixed, cost him £1600 (not sure why). Yep, two months later.... This time he left it.0
