London Tube strike

Options
Hi

We are going to London for annual visit (January 20th to January 25th.) Will be alighting at Euston and travelling to hotel near Waterloo Station.

I think I read that there will be a one day tube strike on the Friday 25th of Jan so will have to look for alternatives to the tube when travelling back from Waterloo to Euston.

I understand I can get a No 68 bus to take us to Euston. Was just wondering whether this will be straightforward or whether the buses will be difficult to get with there being no underground trains running. What about taxi's??

If the worst comes to the worst we will just have to walk it (a distance of about three miles), just hope it does not rain.

Does anyone know how the one day strikes affect other forms of transport??

The tube unions seem to have a habit of striking on the day after Christmas and then not striking on the other announced strike days. I can't think why they do it...

You could also get the 59 bus.

It would make life a lot easier if they were not on strike on the 25th of Jan. Thanks for the link (and the 59 bus).

I'd walk it :) I don't think it's as much as 3 miles between the two, so shouldn't be any trouble to do that on foot - that's assuming no young kids or heavy luggage.

If there's a strike then all the lines may not be affected or there might be a few trains running on all the lines but generally it means it's going to be horribly busy, buses will be crammed too and good luck finding a cab (plus traffic will be worse than usual). A lot will depend on what time of the day you need to leave Waterloo, but you'll probably need to allow more time than would usually be required if you're going to use any form of transport other than your feet! You always have the option of the Boris Bikes, but my guess is that it's probably going to be difficult to find any that day

Thanks for reply. Fortunately we have an off peak ticket to get back from Euston. If we had advance tickets it would have been a nightmare. Too old for Boris's bikes but certainly up for a walk if cant get a taxi. Just hope it aint too wet and windy.

Thanks again for a great link. Fare would be just over a tenner. Well worth it if we can find a taxi.

There's a taxi rank underneath the Euston Station or you can be like a local and hail one as it drives by on Euston Road.

This deal might be helpful if it stiull works http://www.hotukdeals.com/freebies/10-free-towards-a-cab-with-gettaxi-co-uk-with-code-1382991

If the tube strike is not on, getting a tube would be much quicker and cheaper providing you're not paying "cash"

We will be needing the taxi going the other way. From Waterloo to Euston.

Very much hope the tube strike does not go ahead. We have Oysters.

    Thanks again.

Shouldn't be too bad then, but still allow plenty of time to get there if using public transport, though there's a good chance the strike will get cancelled if previous years are anything to go by :rotfl:

I've checked the walking distance and got 2.4 miles between Waterloo station and Euston station.

Also, the scale of strikes varies, sometimes there'll still be tube trains running, at least on some lines.

The walk is a dead easy straight-ish line.
