Help uni fees owing

My niece has become too stressed and depressed to continue her studies after having been stalked by an ex boyfriend. Consequently she has interupted her studies and hopes to return in the next academic year.
Unfortunately for various reasons she did not apply for student finance and has still got to pay the University fees but has no money to do so. What can she do?

Has she spoken to the University about it? If she had applied for student finance she would be able to defer for a year I think so I assume this would also be the same if she's paying for them herself.

I know someone in my year last year who's son died so he dropped out of the course and to start with student finance were chasing him for the fees back but once he spoke to the university and deferred for the year with 'mitigating circumstances' it was all dealt with.

Have a chat with student services and see what they say.

How was she planning to pay the fees before this happened?
  • She was going to get a student loan but things got on top of her and the application didn't go in.

you can apply up to 9 months after the course has started - however if she is deferring then this may be difficult....

I'd recommend she call them (SFE) tomorrow - and then speak to the uni - as only a part of the fees may be due, and if she is planning to go back next year they may let her pay installments.... as long as she keeps them informed - it's important for her to leave sooner rather than later as otherwise more fees may be due...

just try to help her out so she doesn't get upset with the people in the office if she is going back next year she needs to keep them onside...
