It's pretty streamlined, these 2 could be ticked with hijackthis

    O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe

These 2 should go if you delete the google update task c:\windows\tasks and reboot
    O23 - Service: Google Update Service (gupdate) (gupdate) - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe
    O23 - Service: Google Update Service (gupdatem) (gupdatem) - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe

This one could be disabled using services.msc if you aren't planning connecting the ipod again
    O23 - Service: iPod Service - Apple Inc. - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe

    did you install cleanmem?

Thanks, will do that. I did install cleanmem, I can see it has went in My Documents, as has windirstart. Should it be on the desktop like the other things i have downloaded? If so can I move it or do I have to reinstall it? Sorry, thought that was all my questions for the night!

drives ok, bit cheaper on the web

    eg ebuyer are selling

    hitachi 500GB for 37.98 + delivery
    hitachi 1TB delivered for 53.99

knock a percent or so off with topcashback

Suggest trying macrium reflect free to backup all your machines when you are satisfied they are working well, then you can recreate the same setup exactly in future

    ---

cleanmem if you installed it properly should appear as a task under

    c:\windows\tasks

    --

post a windirstat report if you want help with the disk space

Its clearly not installed properly! I have tried installing it again to the desktop and I now have lots more icons on the desktop but none of them are doing anything of note. There is an uninstall icon but when I click that a box with a whole load of writing flashes up on the screen for a second and then disappears?

eta: I think it has installed now or I've activated it or whatever. I have a green box with 48 on it on the bottom right of the screen! I've right clicked on it and selected clean memory now but it hasn't opened anything up. Still can't see it in tasks though?

    the file is cleanmem_v_2.4.3_setup.exe

run that, should install it under program files.

then look for the cleanmem settings link (icon), run that it will start a wizard, the last step of which lets you set it to run sheduled.

the program on it's own doesn't have a window, it should just run in the background every 5 minutes or so, and tidy up your ram usage

the 49 thing you see is the mini monitor program, which doesn't need to be running

  • Thanks. It now appears in the task list, although it says it will run every 15 minutes, it didn't give me an option to change this, just zipped through the install wizard itself. The green box monitor thing no longer appears, don't know why!

I will try to post the windirstart report tomorrow. You must have the patience of a saint by the way! Thanks again.

15 minutes is ok, you can edit it if you wish by clicking on the task
