How long do I have to stick with BT for?

Hi peeps

I used to be registered on here before under a different name but can't remember the name or the password and even the email i used don't even exist any more any how never mind i'm back on here but i need to ask a quick question. If any one can help

I've just signed up my line in my new house with BT on Option 1 I don't want to stick with them with my calls tho i would like free evening and weekend calls I was thinking of going with Sky cos i got Sky Digital. i'm not likely to be be spending an hour on the phone yapping away but i don't really want to be paying for my calls either like i am at the moment:mad: but i don't know how long i have to stick with BT before i can swap my calls over?

Is there a time period i have to be stuck with them?
I haven't got a computer yet at home either so i'm really just looking on the calls side of things at the moment

Thanks

Call BT and ask for them to send you a copy of the contract which stipulates the length of service you must give, that you signed or authorised, if they say that you agreed to the length of contract on the phone ask them for the tape recording in which you agree to be locked into a 12 month contract.

If your lucky they will have neither and can walk away

Thanks for that I haven't signed anything but i dunno what i heard when i phoned them i think it was something like all we ask is that you stick with us for at least 3 months but i didn't know what he meant by that the calls or the line rental i dont mind paying the line rental not bothered about that i just want free calls and i don't want to be stuck with BT for 18months on the offer that they got out at the moment i know with sky the only contract you got is the one with your digibox. What other call providers can i go with that dont close you in on a contract?
    Thanks

You don't have to make any calls via BT.

See the 'HERE' link in my signature below for some suggestions/recommendations.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

No worries thanks for your help anyhow.

Anyone else have any other advice.

I've just had my line reconnected with BT yesterday so my line and calls are both with BT at the mo. But BT Option 1 doesn't give me free evening and weekend calls. BT at the moment have an offer that gives free evening and weekend calls but you have to sign into a 18month contract and pay the last six months the extra line rental which i really dont want to do. I dont mind paying BT line rental (£10.75) but i'm looking for a call provider that gives me free evening and weekend calls at no extra charge. E.G sky at the moment is offering free evening and weekend calls along with your sky TV which I have i don't want the broadband cos i haven't got a computer yet i'll look at that again in the future.

My only dilema at the moment is that i don't know how long you have to keep your calls going through BT before you can swap them out to someone else am I being to quick to swap my calls out to Sky have i got to wait with BT for a month or so?

    Any one know?

Your calls can be moved whenever you want. its only the line rental that has to stay with Bt according to the T&Cs.

Yes, do that. A couple of years ago i 'verbally agreed' to a 3 month contract, yet they continued to charge me for several months after i had left that particular property.
Then they basically inferred that a verbal contract didn't mean anything So this should obviously work both ways and as stated, if they don't have your verbal agreement taped then i'd guess they don't have a leg to stand on legally. Change change to someone cheaper!
    Good luck.

Line rental must remain with BT for so long, though would be crazy not to keep line rental with BT.

Calls can go via another provider such as Sky or Primus Saver 2 within days.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
