catheterised kitty, worried slave...

so looks like rocky's bladder issues have come back :(

whilst the vet is trying to work it out he's been sent home with a catheter tube to keep things open as he bladder was only half full when we took him in (probably got to it early as we knew the signs) but the urine that he got out was 'very bloody' so definitely something up.

anyway, just after some reassurance, Rocky doesn't seem to be bothered by the catheter but the vet kept going on about not letting him bottom shuffle. he's not tried it so far but I'm paranoid about it starting when I'm asleep and him ripping it out.

has anyone had this before and if so how has your cat been?

he's been heavily sedated as he really does not like vets (they haven't seen him for a year but the nurse recognised him as the cat that hates everyone :s) but seems to be fairly alert now and ok with his cone, occasionally colliding with walls and trying to back out of it which is slightly amusing to watch I have to admit lol

just in case anybody searches for the same thing in future...
Rocky's catheter has stayed in fine, no bum shuffling, i don't think he really knows it's there.

he managed to get The Cone Of Shame off four times though, just by pushing it with his paw in an attempt to wash his ear. bit annoyed about that, surely they should know he'd attempt that and give him one that couldn't be pushed off.

his wee is still very bloody though so hopefully the vet can do more today :s x x

Our boy suffered a bad and very distressing bout of this and he was kept in the vets with the catheter for a couple of days.

We took to syringing water into his mouth about a million times a day (ok so more like 3-4 times a day) to keep him hydrated and flushing through his system. The vet said we needed to encourage more water intake ... the syringe was our idea and it worked VERY well. We also changed his water bowl to a glass one and that really helped to encourage his drinking (don't knock it till you've tried it trust me)

We were at our wits end and had started to discuss the pts option as we wouldnt/ couldnt let him suffer, it was simply an aweful time.

The condition flared up again two years ago when we moved and he had to stay indoors for a few weeks .. his issue has always been he wont use his litter tray. We recognised the signs straight away and got some metacam from the vet and go that syringe out again to pump him full of water and it was gone within the week thank god :T
    Ant.
