Maternity Allowance

Hi,

I am trying to work out if I am entitled to MA.

I have worked for 26 weeks during the test period, however i did not leave to have a baby - I wasnt even pregnant when I left! I left because I hated it.

A few weeks after leaving I discovered I was pregnant.

I have been unemployed since then but not entitled to JSA so have just been living off small savings & my partners wages.

I satisfy the other things but didnt leave to have a baby - am i stil entitled? Thanks in advance

Yes - you just have to have been working in those weeks, when and why you left doesn't matter

Thanks - the form says have you left work to have a baby?

I answered no which the redirects to either self employed, lived abroa or claiming benefits...no are applicable to me!

Also, do you know how they calculate weekly wages as I was paid monthly with cut off dates?

    Thanks

Yes, you should be entitled. I left work in the February (for another reason), job hunted unsuccessfully for a few months, then had Andrew early so started my MA claim in the August.

I didn't do an online claim so don't know about any 'redirection' based on how you answer questions. I was paid monthly but based on an annual salary, so it was quite easy to work out what my weekly equivalent pay would have been.

    Many thanks.

Do I just divide monthly wage by no. of weeks in that month?
