Car Accident claim advice

My son has had his car reversed into on a friend's driveway. No problem with admission of fault etc. The friend's family are suggesting my son gets a quote for the, quite extensive, damage rather than involve insurance and they will settle privately. Their son, who caused the damage, is only 18/19 years old so this is not an unexpected proposal.
What are the main pitfalls here. I don't want to appear awkward but I do not want my Son to come out of this badly. He doesn't have a courtesy car provided on his insurance but I presume he may be entitled to one from the other side's insurer under the circumstances?
Any observations welcomed.

If you select the repairer there should be no issues (assuming no problem over the garage getting paid. Hopefully the body shop will supply a complimentary courtesy car whilst the repairs are done.
But if the car cannot be used till it's repaired then check the third party will pay for a hire car pending the car going in.
If not then you are left with making a claim off their insurance.0 -
or get them to hire him a carDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Pitfalls the car is in the garage and they dont pay the bill after.
Get the quote and get the money up front.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As someone who works in the claims industry, my advice would be to use a reputable repairer - a dealership would be an even better option and also ensure that a replacement courtesy car will be included in their quotation.
Explain to the repairer that the invoice is to be made payable to the family friend - better still take the family friend along when getting the quote and booking the vehicle in for repairs.
I hope you get everything sorted out
You do know a lot of main dealers farm their work out to little body shops, the big ones that have their own aint always that good.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it.
