The full details are at the Klargester site.
but it looks like that depends on how much you want to show above ground- Shallow Invert 2160
    Standard Invert2460 Deep Invert 2960
So if you wanted it totally covered that would be about 9ft deep but if you didn't mind the cover showing a bit only 6ft6 or so.

I notice that there has been legislation since I did mine which may mean you have to have to have it professionally installed. But you will need to talk to the suppliers first to understand what you are getting into.

While it would be possible to dig it out yourself by hand (one of my neighbours did) it would be far easier with a mini digger. They really do have quite a small footprint and are really fun to drive for the day.

Don't know if this is of any help, but our septic tank went wrong a load of times, as we were then in a new-ish build the NHBC warranty covered the initial repairs (believe me the smell was something to behold and seemed to last for months after the job was finished). About 5 years later the same problem occured and Klargester (mentioned in an earlier reply) came out to offer a solution. The total cost would have been about £8,500 (this was two years ago). Instead we sold the house and gave the buyer a discount as I couldnt bear the thought of going through it all again.
Member since Sept 2003, been comping seriously since 2004 and so far have won.........
A book (which never arrived) a Rugby ball (mother of three girls) and a cheque for £50. In 2009 my (one and only) win An Avatar goody bag (thanks to weeowen67) since then nothing. Come on Comping Fairy surely I deserve a little luck?
  • Thanks guys for your help.

I am currently waiting for a couple of firms to come out to give us estimates for septic tanks/water treatment facilities.

In the meantime, I have found out from the local water company that the nearest main drain/sewer is 300 metres away but they say there is no set price to work out how much it would cost to connect. Is there anyone out there working for a water company who can help with an estimate of costs? We are slightly below the road so a pump would be needed, but after that it is a relatively straight, rural road to the main.

The guy I spoke to said it would cost £375 for someone to come out and survey although this was partly refundable if we get connected. A bit of an expensive outlay if we can't get connected.
  • if you can connect to a main sewer that si s the best option - you can buy pumps which will get it there!! the klargeter discs have to be complete buried the same as a septic, and if you need it to go down further than the standard invert you will pay more as the deeper the invert the stronger the shell needs to be (its all coming back to me now she says!!) also the effluent is not as clear as water (essentially its p*ss and dirty toilet / bath water) some firms do tell people the can drink it as its so clean but you are not allowed to dicharge near animals grazing or near what will be drinking water - so I dont think its as clean as they say or it wouldnt be illegal!! let us know how you get on!!
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D
  • Thanks for this. Got someone coming a week on Monday to look at possibility of connecting to the main. They mentioned a pump. Not clear on what you mean by discs? Is this something we need to connect to the main? Also, does anyone out there have any idea how much it will cost to dig up 300metres of road to connect to the nearest main? Plus the pump cost?

I just want to avoid appearing ignorant and being ripped off.
    Many thanks.

I dont know about installation costs best just to get a few quotes - sorry.

When i refer to discs its because inside the Klarg Sewage Treatment plant are discs which rotate slowly and have the bacteria on which do the treating! Unless theres some major reason why you cant have a pump it is always best - they are pricey as you would need a proper pump as opposed to just a little effluent one but you dont have to have it emptied.
