however i would have thought that there is a big demand for day care of dogs whilst owners are at work , i would have thought that this would be far more lucrative than looking after a hamster , i know a couple of people who walk dogs

I'm told this guy makes a very good living...

Sounds like an hour a day 6 days a week for a tenner an hour
  • Wow thanks for all your replies.

To be honest I don't know if her business idea will work or not (who ever does) but I'm just glad she has got some ambition in her. What kind of parent would I be if I said 'no dont bother following an ambition just sign on the dole like everybody else'.

For now we are going to concentrate on her passing her course which she should do. Then in June we will look into her building up a pet sitting business either in premises or by visiting peoples homes.

It may be worth starting by visiting people's homes, and building up eventually to boarding.

I think it's a great idea - I hate putting my cats in to a cattery, and we pay a girl - who we at first didn't know, to feed them twice a day. We don't have family or friends that are near by, or that we'd feel able to ask to give up their time twice at day. Similarly we don't know our neighbours really.

And I'm sure small pet owners find it even harder as not many people run this kind of service.

However, I'd personally make it pet sitting - for cats too, so as not to restrict your client group. I can understand dogs are slightly different though as they'll need walking - but that could be a service offered too.

I feel better when I'm away knowing someone is having a chat and play with my cats, feeding them, changing their litter and giving them fresh water. We pay £10 a day for two visits.
