Got a Kindle Fire for Christmas?

I did and was just flicking idly thru the Help section when I noticed an Amazon Prime link. I clicked they and found out that by registering my kindle to my amazon account I had automatically been given a free months trial to amazon prime and that if I didn't opt out within the month I would automatically be charged £49 for a full years membership. there was certainly no mention of this when I registered my kindle on Christmas day.
on checking my amazon account, I had indeed been signed up and had to opt out.
I wouldn't have even known about this unless I had gone into the help bit of my kindle!

I got one at the end of November and its a months free trial, they didn't tell me I had to opt out but I got messages via the kindle asking me if I wanted to continue the trial and saying that I would have to go and sign up to it so I don't know why you had to opt out. I used it a few times and thought of it as an added bonus0

They do ask you if you would like to continue. I got mine on release day, but was aware of the prime offer (its plastered all over the kindle page on amazon). I paid for it, free delivery now for most things. More than covered the cost just with xmas alone. Bought another fire yesterday, wonder if that gets a free month??? lol xThe feeling i got when i confirmed my place studying criminology at Exeter Uni was brilliant!!!!!
The pride my children told me they had in me was even better!!!!! # setting positive example to children is OUTSTANDING!!!! !:grouphug::grouphug::smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea0 -
The Amazon Help is refering to the regular Prime sign up open to anyone, where if you chose to sign up to it you can try it free for one month by opting out before 30 days, else you pay £49.
The Kindle offer states it's a 30 day trial at no cost, so should be no need to opt out. I'd assume if you take the Kindle they automaticaly remove you from it after 30 days.0 -

Never assume, read the OP's post they had to opt out or they would have been charged, there is a long thread running about people that have signed up for Prime then moaned when they have been charged after the free trial.
If you take the free trial check your account to see if there is a date you need to cancel by if you do not wish to continue with Prime and be charged the £49.0 -
We didn't have any problem with this. Around a month after registering the Kindle Fire, got an e-mail from Amazon saying the free month of Prime was about to expire. Did we want to sign up for Prime permanently?0

May they would, may be they wouldn't. They took the Kindle offer so would have been signed up for 30 days.
They manually opted out, may be as it's the Kindle offer T&C's they would have been opted out anyway.
They assumed they had to opt out manually.0 -
Cancelling a Free Trial
Go to the Prime Settings page in Your Account and click "do not upgrade." You'll continue to enjoy your Amazon Prime benefits until your free trial period is over. Then your membership will automatically cancel. Your card won't be charged.

That's if the OP signed up to Prime not via Kindle. i.e they agreed to be charged if they did not cancle in 30 days.
If the OP has 1 month trial via registering a Kindle they will have an email with an end date, example
... " your new Kindle Fire automatically comes with a free month of Amazon Prime" ... "Your Prime benefits will end on 15 Jan 2013 and you will not be charged."0
