DLA isn't specifically for a carer. If you have the needs and are awarded the benefit, you can use the money any way you choose.

Someone might use the money to pay for a taxi when they have to travel which then leaves them fit enough to do small jobs round the house. They might use the money to buy equipment/gadgets which mean they can keep their independence. They could save it up and buy a mobility scooter. And I'm sure you can think of other examples.
Pay the Sky and mobile phone? Cigarettes and takeaways, things like that?

How can someone get money for a carer that they don't have?

Is it just another way to get more money a week?

I was I part being sarcastic, but I genuinely hate seeing children as carers. It makes them lovely children and human beings but they loose part if their childhood that can't be reclaimed. Hence my young carers suggestion as the friendship and support they give these children can be invaluable.
  • If your son needs support Carer's First for young Carers are invaluable. I have had severe mental health problems for 6 years and my son has the support from them for 5 years. He had 121 counselling, which helped him a lot. They also arrange trips. If you feel he could do with some support i would highly recommend them.
My son is now 16 and passed 10 GCSE's and is doing A levels.

At the moment, people can spend their money in any way that they want to.

If you are disabled and going out is difficult, paying for Sky may be a good choice.

If cooking is a problem, why not spend on ready meals or take-aways rather than employ someone to cook meals for you?

For someone who has health problems, I would expect them to have a mobile phone.

Nothing good to say about cigarettes, though!

Thank you for the comments guys but as for my son he only helps with the hoovering and dishes i will not expect/let him do anything else and when i am ok we go out together for day's and he has friends who come over and he goes to there's but only ppl who live close as i will not let him go to the park or out of our complex area as i like to keep my eye on him and know he is safe but like i said thank you for your comments and support, for Mojisola thank you for the comment you left on top
