JSA whilst studying part time

I might be studying 40 credits next semester at university. The teaching time will be 12 hours, but I'll have to do studying in my own time which will raise it to 20-30 hours.
Would I be able to claim JSA or will I be over the limit?
Thanks

Officially yes you can claim but I had a problem 8 years ago when they claimed my 5 hours a week at uni would have 30 hours study therefore 35 hours so I was lying about not getting a loan.
I learned the hard way.
But yes its perfectly fine to claim whilst doing part time study as long as under the limit and if they want an interview or offer you a job you dont turn down.
Just remembered 2 years ago I did about 8 hours a week no problem, same thing as long as you could turn up for appointments they were fine and even arranged it so I could come in to sign on at 4.30 when it finished for the day.0 -
What are your annual credits?
Is your course classed as part time? There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
Depends if your course is officially classed as part time. I did a PhD which was study on your own when you liked and meet up every fortnight for a couple of hours, so in theory it was 2 hours every fortnight. That sounds very much part time to me, as the rest of the work I could have done in evenings and weekends. However it was classed as full time (essentially so they could charge more, I had a candid conversation with my tutor about their fees), and therefore not allowed (cue much gnashing of teeth on my part). It's all in the wording!0
