Morning All,
Can anyone recommend a nice Country Inn or Pub in or around Wakefield, I am taking a lovely young Lady out Tonight (I know, short notice) and need a bit of inspiration.
Thanks in advance. Great board by the way.

Nice is a relative term but you could try the Fox and Hounds, Liley Lane Upper Hopton Mirfield, Wakefield WF14 8EE. They do food mainly big car park, quiet area or there are a couple of others down that road if that's not your thing"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Depnds on the lady in question, What age group, Classy? loud? Party Girl? first date? Second date?
How much money do you want to spend?
King's Arms in Heath Common is pretty good, have a few more suggestions depending on what the lady is like.0 -
A bit further out - but worth it is the fountain inn at Ingbirchworth, near penistone.
Spencers Arms at Cawthorne?
Bluebell Inn at Wentbridge?0 -

In that case the Kings Arms in Heath or The Green Dragon in Emley, just watch out for the numerous speed cameras on Huddersfield Road if you go to Emley.
I had a curry at Red Chilli II last night, very good no pool table though lol0 -

Inkie,
Cheers for the input but these 2 are a bit far out of the way. I live nr Wentbridge and the lady in question lives in Batley. so looking for something that we can both get to (both drive) but preferably that she does not have to travel miles to.
Dkls,
Does the Green Dragon have a pool Table?
Red Chille II is very nice, but we are only looking to have a drink, hopefully this second date will lead to a third and I can come back on here for some more advice on places to Eat.
Thanks.

Not sure if the Green Dragon does have a pool table, went upmarket a few years back, and havent been for about a year.
Most of the pubs in Wakey that do have pool tables tend to be the rougher pubs although there is one that Inns of Court thats not bad with a pool table , Or my 30 something pub of choice is the Cuban Bar in the er ahem " Latin Quarter" of Wakey, just off Westgate, lively but not as lively as the Westgate Run with its hordes of drunken testosterone fuelled teens.

If you or Date is EMO/Rocker/Goth The Jockey has a pool table, bit rough though for a date IMO.0 -
Crooked Billet Saxton - about 3 miles from Tadcaster. Does the most amazing pub grub - homemade scampi massive yorkie puds filled with steak. However, also does cuisine on the same menu! Deosn't have a pool table but 1 mile down the road is the Rockingham Arms which has a round pool table. Worth going for a drink but their food is not up to scratch.0

Thanks Katiepoppycat, Croooked billet is excellent for food, however not looking for Food just a nice Pub pref with a Pool Table and between Batley and Darington. Although I do not mind travelling I would prefer for the Lady in question not to travel too many Miles.

Warning regarding Crooked Billet.
My parents called the other week on the way home from the races. The do this about 3 times a year and call.
The pub has changed hands. It is now crap. You don't get half of what you did, prices have gone up. Service is poor, like the previous woman had the bar staff sharp as hell, not anymore you can tell they are not interested.
The food was very poor and they were not the only ones. One man was also complaining about the food being poor.
My parents saw one employee going to get the Yorkshire puddings from the freezer, he had very high pile and was resting them against his chest as he walked....not the best hygine.
It is nowhere near as good as it was.
Could be teething problems for the new people but my parents will not be going back.
On a general point regarding pub food. I reccommend you give a chef and brewer one a go. They are usually situated in nice surroundings and are nationwide.
If i am doing a long jorney i do a search to see if ones anywhere near on my route.

Not the cheapest place but nice and not a bad wine selection usually.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0
