Not being a music person at all, where do people actually BUY MP3's from these days? I have been asked by someone with just a bog standard MP3 player (not ipod) where she can download music legally, and I'm stumped!!
Any help is appreciated.

Not something I do myself, so I can't comment on the quality/selection available, but a google came up with these (legal) ones:

Personally I prefer to buy the CD's and rip them to MP3 if I want. I just like having a nice old fashioned copy of my music that I can use on a variety of devices and won't disappear if my Hard drive fails of I lose my MP3 player. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Thank you all very much, you've been a great help.0

Emusic do DRM-free mp3s, and they have a good trial offer with Beanscene. It's a 14 day trial with 50 free downloads, and you get to keep the songs if you cancel. http://www.emusic.com/beanscene
EMI have also started selling some DRM-free tracks through iTunes if the player supports mp4.0 -
Does anyone know a good alternative to iTunes..on the same subject?
They seem to have a massive collection of music, but the problem is I use it for hospital radio.
I'm wasting a cd every week, because I can't download a song, stick it on a memory stick and take it in - and theres nowhere at the studio to plug an mp3 player in.
I tried with TescoDownloads, but the selection seems quite poor, and they use DRM wma files....so I have this to do with each song:
- Download from TescoDownloads,
- Open in media player to get the licence on my machine
- Burn it with Nero as an audio cd, but burn to an .iso.
- Next close Nero, open Nero Imagedrive, and open the .iso as a mock drive
- Now I go back into Windows Media Player, and rip the fake drive, to mp3.
- Then I go back and rename the resulting mp3 (as media player always labels it as some really bizarre song when I do this).
Ditto for Woolworths music.
Woolworths is only 59p a track (most others are 79p), but they have this "preparing your files" thing that happens after you pay for them, but before you are able to download them.
It tells you it takes a minute and to refresh the page and see if the "download" link appears. Twice I've had this take well in excess of an hour, and once I tried the day after and it still hadn't finished being prepared !
It's a lot of hassle to go through, considering I'm actually paying for it. I could probably find it on an illegal download quicker.0 -
Hi toasterman
To save wasting CD-R discs every week you could treat yourself to some cheap CD-RW discs from here.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-CMC-Dye-4x-CD-RW-free-sleeves-BARGAIN_W0QQitemZ260109751698QQihZ016QQcategoryZ11161QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I bought some of them and they work OK, no problems.

Why not buy the music you want on CD from ebay.
Most CD's sell on there for less than a quid!0 -
