A reformat is best to be sure.
Otherwise, try anti virus like AVG or Avast plus Malwarebytes and Spybot: Search & Destroy. They are all available on Filehippo
Also, would be worth changing any important passwords like e-mail from another computer or once your computer is rebuilt/cleaned.
Depending on how confident your feeling, you could also change your DNS servers to something like OpenDNS. They block known dodgy addresses. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Malware bytes found 50 items on a quick scan, so I'm running a further full scan. Downloaded and running Spybot as I type. I have Avira as antivirus, a legacy of needing something compatible with virginmedia. Now on btvision- any reason why I should change to AVG?Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?0

I had this Halifax problem amongst other issues that seemed to crop up with my pc at the same time and like you I detected 'strangeness' and aborted. I installed malaware, spybot, avast (to replace mcafee) and clean up my p.c. using cc cleaner etc, not to mention defrag etc, a spring clean - problem has not resurfaced yet...0

AVG and Avast are the two biggest 'free' antivirus providers. As long as your Avira is up to date, it should be fine.Malware bytes found 50 items on a quick scan, so I'm running a further full scan. I don't understand. VirginMedia is an ISP, what has a virus checker got to do with them? You should be able to install whatever software you want on your PC, regardless of your internet provider.
Can't remember why but AVG wouldn't work with it.Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?0
