Insure and Go Gadget Insurance- BEWARE

I have Insure and Go gadget insurance, platinum cover, which I took out to cover my iPhone 5 32mb which I queued up for 10 hours to buy on day of release. I took this level of cover out specifically to cover accidental damage and LOSS of the product. I took the policy out in good faith.

I recently lost the phone (down my toilet, flushed). Daft I know but these things happen so I submitted my claim and expected the policy to indemnify. Today I had a rejection letter saying they wouldn't pay out for loss as I knew where the phone was! Well, I'm sorry but I don't know where it is, it's gone down the sewer!

Having read the enclosed terms and conditions, it would seem that the cover does not actually cover loss at all. It would seem that the only incident of LOSS that is covered is that where the phone has been taken by physical force. To my mind this would be aggravated theft, or theft at least, but certainly not LOSS. Insureandgo.com website at the sales stage clearly states that the policy covers loss. This to my mind is a disgusting example of mis-selling of insurance.

They are absolute crooks and I would strongly urge everyone to NOT use them for mobile phone cover if you want to be covered for loss.

Make a formal complaint to Insure & Go and then make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.

The insurance company has accepted the fact that the phone is in the sewer, and that therefore you know where it is. Consequently their cover is totally worthless because wherever you might have lost it, you know it's still on the planet, don't you? According to their terms, you can't lose it unless it somehow gets propelled into space.

In addition, as they've accepted that it's down the sewer, they have to acknowledge that it's been accidentally damaged, don't they?

Either way, I believe you have a good case and should follow vikingaero's advice.

Clearly the person you spoke to doesn't know what he's talking about as by flushing your phone down the crapper, inadvisable as that is, you are fulfilling one of the clauses of the insurance, being that you must specify exactly where you lost the item. I'm not sure where you get the second part from as loss cannot be theft by definition and a brief read of the Ts&Cs doesn't equate the two.
