Assistance for charity work

I am thinking of offering my services to a local charity. They are in desperate need of volunteers to drive vehicles to Romania to deliver much needed supplies.
My question is:
Am I eligble for any kind of benefit for the 2 weeks I will be away from the UK?
I am in full time employment & my boss says that having the time off isn't a problem, but it will be unpaid as I have used all my holiday entitlement for the year. This is the only thing stopping me, as I simply cannot afford to go a fortnight with no money coming in.
Be gentle with me, as I've never claimed any benefit in my life & as such, I've no idea how the system works.
Thanks in advance.

Can't think of anything as far as taxpayer's money is concerned.
You'll be out of the UK for one thing.
Perhaps you could get some private sponsorship - like people sponsoring someone to climb Kilimanjaro where the money could go to the charity and the charity could pay you some living expenses.0 -
