Consumer Rights for 6 months old tablet.

Hi, I'm wondering somebody can shed some light and help me out.

About 6 months ago I bought a tablet from eBay Argos Clearance store. I have rarely used it and never noticed it before, but found now after my friend bought the same tablet from elsewhere that my tablet's screen has strange yellow/orange dots and visible pixels squares that i can see when i tilt the screen. It was a refurbished item and I guess the screen was replaced for the item that I have. However, the replaced screen is definitely not of the same standard/quality as the one that is fitted by the manufacture as my friend's tablet doesn't have those visible pixel squares and dots.

I'm very disappointed by this discovery and want to contact them for a replacement or refund. However, almost 6 months have passed. What does my consumer rights allow me do? Even though the item was refurbished, i bought it in good faith expecting that if there was any repair work carried out, it would have been done to the manufacturer standard.

Thank you for replying in advance.

It is not uncommon for different manufacturers to be used in the same produce. Even Apple with their MacBook Air's use LG and Samsung panels for the screens and they have two different colour responses.

In short, very little if its not faulty.

I understand that parts could be used from different companies, however, the standard of the part being used has to be consistent with the original part, or not?

In my case I am sure that a cheap screen has been fixed. Not the one that comes on original tablet.

Also think (not sure) that you only have 3 month window to satisfy yourself that it is 'fit for purpose', after which time its assumed you've accepted that it is
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

Depending on the tablet if it is a budget range one maybe yours has the standard screen but they had run out so had to use a screen from a higher spec model for your friends to get an order out on time

What CoolHotCold is saying is that before your tablet was refurbished it may have had a different screen to your friend's, as manufacturers are nit always consistent with components. So it may not even be the screen that's replaced, it may just have an older, lower grade screen from before the manufacturer improved the component.

Have you tried speaking to Argos? You could try for a repair under warranty?
  • The warranty period I have was from Argos Outlet is 12 months and it is with a company called D&J Henry who refurbished the laptops. The eBay advert may have stated that manufacture refurbished was from a company that the manufacture has approved. If so you can email the manufacture seeking their view i.e. it may be that the a non-approved part has been fitted.

I know this as I have recently purchased two manufactured refurbished laptop from Argos Outlet and one was faulty and the other was not as described.
