£1000 MORE for LPG why?

Options
Hi All

I've been looking at getting back on the road again and looking at cars, I have found a couple of LPG ones but when I am doing the quotes they're coming back between £1000 and £1500 more due to LPG.

I know it's the LPG becasue I kept the same cars for the quotes and just checked and unchecked the LPG.

Any ideas why?

    It is because:
1 - it is a non-manufacturer adjustments to engine. Modifications that many insurers do not like.
2 - Non-standardised parts (different LPG conversions use different tooling methods) - that will be a big hit in cost for any repairs in future.
3- Smaller risk pool. The risk is not spread as wide as petrol or diesel options. Much the same reason why comprehensive can usually be cheaper than TPF&T nowadays. Less people do TPF&T so the risk is spread over fewer people and the cost goes up.

if you go to an insurer that specialises in cars with modifications and avoid the ones that are marketed via comparison sites, you may well find there is little or no price difference with the mainstream pricing. Adrian Flux for example.

It made absolutely no difference at all to my Privilege premium.

Its because your putting modified vehicle? Or the companies your trying dont like LPG cars.

I had no issues with my old RangeRover insurance. No extra charge evenb though i fitted it myself.

Some companies require a certificate before they will cover you.

The comparison websites now have the facility to quote for LPG cars so have a go on those.

I am with M&S this year after a couple of years with Direct Line, no increase in premium compared to a non converted model.

My car was done by a professional outfit though and is on the http://www.drivelpg.co.uk/ official register.

Ensure any car you are looking at is on this register

Quite a few companies, providing it was done through a professional company will just slightly increase the fire/ad excess. Some make no changes at all!
