Sorry to jump in Eskimo26 but I am also looking to buy a similar kind of spec laptop as you are searching for.

    I am looking for:

    6gb ram or more
    500gb HD or more
    i5 or i7 processor
    Budget: £400 - £550
Windows 8 preferred but would consider W 7.

Any suggestions? I have seen a few but I am not allowed to post links with being a new forum user. The Dell inspiron 15r posted by Closed looks great value.. any thoughts on this one?

    Cheers
  • HiJust bumping this to try and get people's advice on what laptop to buy as per my previous post above.
    Any thoughts please

i5 is more important than another 2GB of ram, you could get a similar spec dell for £80 cheaper.

under £355 with topcashback and voucher codes LS3GP609WB7NL8

How does topcashback work? will i really get the money back?

    Hi jules,
I can confirm the best deals i've found for this price range is the samsung in my 1st post and the lenovo in my 2nd post [ only one with a 500gb hard drive].

The price on the dell has increased by £50 no doubt in preparation for fleecing people during the january sales but with cashback and discount still v. good.

i've searched pcworld/currys, argos, mesh, dell, john lewis, and ebuyer and those 3 are my options atm.
    Good luck.
I haven't looked above my £450 budget but for 1510 their are some nice buys on pcworld/currys if your willing to pay a little more. Alternatively go to dell and upgrade one of there sale laptops to your specs. will be hard to beat.

ok i signed up to topcashback but i notice the following in there conditions:

"Please note that the use of a Dell promotional/voucher code not posted and approved by TopCashback, may affect your eligibility for cashback."

So i have the option of 5% off inspiron purchases or a topcashback voucher code for 10% off but if i was to use the voucher code you provided would it void the cashback as they stated in their conditions on this seller?

    Thankyou.

still comes out at 386.10 when you apply LS3GP609WB7NL8, ie not a £50 jump.

    this is without any topcashback

use the voucher codes supplied by topcashback instead, they are on the topcashback dell page at the bottom, then you get 10% off and an additional 5.05% cashback

if you want to use topcashback, 1st of all close your browser, and clean out your cookies with ccleaner

    then go here http://www.topcashback.co.uk/dell/

click on the green reveal code section next to the 10% off All Laptops and Desktops section, this will reveal a 10% off code you can use instead of the one above, make a note of it (save to notepad), do the same after click on the more discount codes section which should reveal other codes that may be applied to your purchase, more than one code can be used if it applies, try them all as it seems not all of them work, but there is one on topcashback that gives the same 10% discount and works

    and login to topcashback

when you click the continue to merchant it should redirect to dell (if it doesn't, or you start browsing elsehwere, you may not get cashback, so this redirect is important.

then find the laptop you want from the redirect on the dell site and apply the coupon code, it should give the same 10% discount as above (these coupon codes change and expire all the time, so it's possible that they may sometimes not work if the website hasn't kept up with the changes)

To clarify, the price you pay at checkout should take account of any voucher codes used, the topcashback is a refund later on

after purchase login to topcashback periodically, to make sure it has tracked, and to check when payment is ready (can take a few weeks after delivery), then you can enter your bank account details to have the 5.05% paid to your bank, along with any other purchases you may have made through topcashback

a lot of high street chains work with them, including the companies you mentioned above

    http://www.topcashback.co.uk/currys/
    http://www.topcashback.co.uk/pc_world/

Fully check the specs of any purchase and try to look at them in shops first, the 15 and 15r are different.

the deals and discounts and voucher codes are changing all the time, especially at this time of year, so the prices above are subject to change - at the present time, the i5 6GB 1TB 15r should come out under £370 when you use codes and get topcashback, which is £60 cheaper than the cheapest I5 I could find on currys website, and £30 cheaper than the hp i5 at pcw.

the i7 in that laptop is a first or 2nd gen so it's old stock. good sicount though and a nice machine.

i had a 1st gen core i7 processor in my dell 17" and they run very hot so i'd get a cooler 2nd/3rd gen i3 or i5 now as both good chips. also, maybe worth checking out the new AMD processor laptops, been getting some hot reviews.

I have just ordered the above Dell Inspiron 15R. I used the 10% discount code but strangely my total order came to £394.55 and my order included an accessory totalling £35.45 therefore the actual laptop must have been £359.10 which is a BARGAIN! :)

Sure you bought the 15R not the 15? (15R has choice of coloured cover, different ports amongst other things) - 15r still comes out at 386 with that code.

could have got another 5.05% off if you'd used cashback

I took a look at the first laptop. It's a good laptop from a very good manufacturer, but the £999 alleged price tag is a large exaggeration. I was doing a lot of laptop price browsing and happened to be interested most of all in buying a lenovo about six weeks ago. Typical prices I found in lots of places for the z570 with these specs back then were about £500.

So, nothing wrong with the laptop and the price looks good actually, it's just not the massive bargain PC world are suggesting it is.
