Citroen C2 VTS boot locking problem

The boot on my Citroen won't open basically.

When I press the release button manually or using the key fob, there is no motorized sound.

Does anyone know whether there is a simple, less costly solution to getting the boot to open, or it an expensive job? I am hoping if it is going to cost me, that I don't have to go to a Citroen dealer.

You dont have to goto a dealer. You can goto any garage. or even DIY it.

Got a test meter? Checked the wiring to see if power is getting to the lock?

Got somewhere to warm it up? See if its just the cold causing it. Weak motors fail when the cold weather hits. Sometimes a bit of heat will get it working.

But replace it ASAP if it does open. It might not do it again.

If power reaches the lock it probably needs replacing.

  • When the boot lock on my Citroen C3 got stuck I used to hit the boot lid with my hand a few times just above the lock - this seemed to free it up. I then sprayed as much WD40 into it as I could. I ended up replacing the lock as it got worse. I have had no trouble with the new one.
  • Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know where I'd be able to buy a cheap meter? I have an electrician in the family, so I'm sure he'd be able to say whether there was power going to the lock.

If it ends up being something to do with the motor, how much can I expect to pay to replace it or cost of a new release button?

This is bloomin' typical. Just had to have the breaks done & new tyres, now this lol.

The C2 has a pretty bad boot design really.

@ greenman. I have tried hitting the boot lock with my hand & it still didn't open.

@ forgotmyname. The problem doesn't seem to be caused by the cold either.

Just need some further advice with regards to where, other than the dealership, I can go to get this fixed?

Just to add..the C2 has a split tailgate.
  • Seems it is a worn boot release button.

Does anyone know where I would be able to buy a new part or a decent condition second hand one?

Main dealer or specialists dealer or breakers or ebay.
