PPI or Credit Card claim HSBC

Hi all,

hope everyone has a good Christmas :)

Have been following these forums for some time and thought I would write on here to see if anyone can help me.

I have (as everyone else probably to) been contacted by various PPI companies etc... and after all the contact thought "may as well give it a go myself".

So... I contacted HSBC direct and politely asked for the paperwork from when I originally signed up to a credit card. This was sent some time in October. Today I finally received a reply... nice formal letter saying how sorry HSBC are that it took so long and so on.

Anyway, to get to the point I looked at the photo copy of the original agreement and found an "Optional Cardholder Repayment Protector"... now I have noticed over the years insurance payments of my credit card but have always thought it was just something to do with the APR (never thought of looking into it). However I did notice that I signed the protector but I do not recall reading any documentation or being told what I was signing for.

My query is in relation to this.... I was 19 when I signed this in 2004 and I was wondering whether anyone thinks its worth claiming for?

As background information I was had been in full time employment for one year then...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Your age is not a reason for complaint. What would your reasons for complaint be?

  • Yeah I understand that would not be a good reason.

The reason I believe I was missile is because of two reasons.. First of all I don't remember reading any documentation on it.

Secondly when looking at the documentation the signature required is under the address statement so to a certain degree it looks like your signing to say this is the correct postal address. There is no opt out box and I believe when i was signing the document is was more of a case of please sign here here and here and so am sure that as most people I did not read te small print..
    What are your thoughts?
  • That's meant to say miss sold*

Do you remember reading any documentation at all? You know you would have had some. Remembering what you read after 8 years would be unusual.

Does the declaration you are signing support that?

Not reading the small print before signing is a personal decision. It does not make it a mis-sale.

You dont have any strong reasons for complaint (eligibility issues for example) and being credit card, it was paid correctly (unlike many loan PPI arrangements). So, as it stands you are going to be reliant on either getting lucky with an auto payout, a generous complaints handler at HSBC or another failing that hasnt been identified here.
