Have you got a quote from the lender for cover?

I've called them (Santander) but they can't provide cover. It may be that I need to go through my Mortgage Adviser as he may have an alternative route in to a more specialist team rather than the normal Customer Service number.

I've given A-Plan a call and they've said they'll get back to me with quote(s) next week.

Without any cover in place at exchange there won't be a "lender" (so there won't be any exchange either)!

Is there any particular reason you need to exchange so far ahead? Is there a newbuild somewhere in the chain?

  • If it's already occupied, can you get an undertaking from the existing insurer to maintain cover?
  • I am experiencing the same issue. But there is only a week planned between exchange and completion and the property is not intended to be left vacant at all.

Does anyone know of any companies that cover from exchange date or just before?

    Who insures your current property?
  • The landlord has insurance at the moment and we are buying from him.

Find a quote from a company you're happy with and then ring them to see if they will help.

Alternatively pop into a local broker (Avoid Swintons) who will have no problem helping

Or get cover through your mortgage provider who will have no problem sorting this and then either let cover run until renewal or cancel when you move in and reinsure with a company you're happy with price wise etc
