Virgin media cable and fireplace

I am buying a new tv and I have a virgin media box which is located to the left of a chimney breast beside the outside wall. What I need is to somehow get the lead to the other side of the chimney breast.
At the moment the fireplace is not being used but late in the new year we will be installing a wood burning stove.
I understand there is a callout fee for getting the engineers out to get the cable moved/extended but I want to keep my costs down.
Also, what is the best way to get the cable to the other side of the chimney? The cable is thick and white and will not bend easily.
Many thanks in advance!

I extended my sky box with these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXTENSION-CABLE-FOR-VIRGIN-MEDIA-10m-WHITE-FREE-PLUGS-/370674333362?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item564de976b2 i could then move the box to where i wanted it. Could you run the cable under the floor?0

Can you route the cable on the outside of the wall and drill a new hole in to the room? If failing that can you not run the cable under the floor to the new position?
I have had no issues form re-routing VM cables at all, just need the right cables and connectors.0 -
You will be able to get extension cables for them from somewhere like Maplins. Just measure how much you will need and don't forget to get some cable clips to pin it down. Ask the staff for help, they are usually great.
Fairly straightfoward really.0 -
I won't be able to put the cable along the outside wall as I live in a semi and the wall that the chimney is on is the neighbours wall.
I will check out the extensions that you linked to.
With regards to the floor, it is laminate and think it is a suspended wooden floor. Not sure how I would go about lifting it up without ruining it.
Thanks for all the advise. If I do see a virgin van out and about I may stop and ask them for free advise too :-)0 -
Mines laminate floor my cables run under the edging strip along the edge of fireplace.0

I could put the cable under the edging strips. Is it okay to bend cable 90 degrees?0

If it's normal virgin coax then 90 degrees is pushing your luck - be very careful bending it.
http://www.ehow.com/how_7315328_bend-coax-cable.html suggests you can bend up to 90 but I would try to keep it less than that if at all possible0
