I am with Sky. I pay around £55 per month for Sky HD with movies, phone package ( not line rental) and unlimited broadband. It's not fibre BB but it has never given any probs in terms of speed or outages.
Obviously it would be cheaper without movie package.0 -
Buy a cheap Freesat receiver and connect that to your satellite cable and ditch Sky - you wouldn't have as many kid's programmes, but it should still be enough.
(Or alternatively, look into getting "Freesat from Sky" - it's different from actual Freesat)0 -
Phone Sky and tell em you cant afford the monthly cost and are looking to reduce your monthly outgoings starting with Sky TV...mention jumping ship to Freeview...i did this and got my package reduced by 50% for 12 months:)0

oh and once your on fibre....you can never go back to "ordinary" broadband speeds;),there may be cheaper fibre alternatives?0

We used to have sky broadband (couple of years ago) but they were (are) LLU users so this basically meant there was a limited bandwidth available for them. That was all well and good until you got to the evening and discovered tehy were massively oversold and your internet crawled to a hault.Always overestimating...0

https://www.plus.net/ are currently doing there fibre speeds for £9.99 a month for 6 months then £20 per month after this period, unlimited usage, and line rental £14 a month....plus i think BT own this lot:D

I work for Sky. Their broadband is free at the moment if you take line rental at £14.50 a month. Broadband Lite is the free one, same as the unlimited but with a usage cap. If you go over the usage cap you get a warning first month then moved up to unlimited broadband for £7.50 a month, so pretty much two months of free broadband no matter how much you use it, then worst case, onto the £7.50 unlimited.
Give them a call, go over what you watch and see if you can trim anything from it. There are so many channels, trimming a few shouldn't hurt. The least channels with line rental and free broadband comes in at less that £35 for everything.
If you feel Sky could do better, it might be worth speaking with cancellations to see what they can do to retain your custom. You mentioned cost as a big factor, so speak to cancellations and explain how you might want to cancel if they can't offer you a better deal, that is, you don't want to cancel, but will if you have to, as another provider can offer a better deal. If you are pressed to cancel or have no luck with someone stern, tell the agent you will think about it and not to make any changes to your account. Call back and get a nicer person. It really depends on who you speak to, and if you get one stern person, don't think you won't get anywhere. Just call back. It's a pain waiting in the queue, but if it saves you money every month it's worth it.
£45 for broadband is wild...0 -
Also, go onto BT live chat on their website (click through to where you want to cancel your broadband). I did that and they offered me exactly the same deal as Plusnet were offering at that time, but of course without the hassle of changing providers.
(This was before Plusnet dropped their prices, so BT may no longer be able to match it)0 -
Anyone considered UTV internet? I joined them about a year ago when I finally escaped BT. I've found UTV to be a good bit cheaper, and the internet always works, unlike when I was with BT. I don't have fibreoptic though, as I just want a basic broadband and fibreoptic cost more the last time I checked.
I get free phone calls in the evenings and at weekends. If you need to phone up about internet/phone problems, its a NI based call centre, unlike BT.0
