Yeah, why not. Real fires and crimes can probably wait a bit while they put the lights and sirens on for an irritating noise.

Isn't there a law about deliberately misusing 999?

I called 101, actually. And being concerned about an alarm is not a waste of resources, especially when the alarm is in a flat and not a detached house. In my situation, I knocked on upstair's door several times without reply. What else could I do? I was concerned about a neighbour with learning difficulties. He could've been unconscious. The FB came from a local station and actually thanked me for doing something. I don't think that was a waste of resources.

There probably is, but considering Carbon Monoxide has no smell or colour, who is to say it isn't a real threat in this situation.

If FB dont do anything to silence the alarm then ring environmental heath at the local council.. they give so long for the owner to turn it off otherwise they force entry to silence it :)

Thanks for all replies. Hubby managed to get in through window and disable alarms. Will contact council when they open again on 3rd January to see if they can locate housing agency as concerned if anything else happens I'll have nowhere to go.

Could be an oppotunity if the place has been forgotton about

how long has it been empty?
