Puppy food to adult food

Hi all, can I ask what age you would recommend to change over to adult dog food?

I've had a look around and I can't seem to find a straight answer.

Archie is almost 8 months old, vet said 1 year, bloke in pet shop said now.

We switched Chino from puppy to junior food at 6 months and then to adult at 1 year.

Our Lab is now 18 months old , we slowly changed her over to adult 2 months ago.
But Labs are slow to reach adulthood compared to other breeds

I think it depends on the breed smaller dogs change sooner as they have stopped growing.

There isn't a huge difference in the formulation of the food so whenever you want really. The differences are minor. Adult dogs can eat puppy food and puppies can eat adult food. I'd say when the dog looks fully grown plus another month or so or when the food runs out.

Ours is a lab and we swapped him over when he was about 6 months old. I don't think it makes much difference. Years ago there was never any such thing as puppy food, and our dogs were always fine. Some people even feed adult food to pup as young as 8 weeks.

Some people feel you're better off skipping puppy food altogether - a slow, steady growth can be better for the joints, especially in larger breeds, than trying to speed up growth with a puppy food.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, any time between 8-12 months for a smaller breed or 12-18 for a larger breed would be fine IMO.

Thank you for all your help, I have about 3 weeks worth of puppy food left so I think I'll just buy adult food next.

What to do is buy adult just now and mix it gradually putting less puppy food in, that should help ensure that there is no runny tummies with switching over.

Thank you, funny enough I ordered her food earlier on today, planning to start the change over in 2 weeks so it'll be done over a period of about 10 days.

I'm sure she would be fine but think its always best to do a gradual change if possible. My pup is raw fed so we went onto that from 10 weeks but we were told if remaining on kibble and wanting to change brand to do it gradually
