I'll be honest with you. I'm pretty wound up by it all, which is why I've been avoiding it. Don't want to get into a shouting match.

Why would it have to be a shouting match? There is plenty of evidence in the posts above to show that they are a good company and your experience is not usual. Ring them, ask to speak to a manager, keep calm, explain what happened and see what their response is.

This wasnt unsual. CT are normally very good but they messed up with this offer. Offer was for £20 off any spend. So a £21 shirt cost £1 plus postage....

This proved VERY popular. Also hit the web on a saturday night I think so lots and lots of orders.

CT then tried to fix this by promising to honour the first order. However as OP said they didnt follow through on this and I too was sent my most expensive order (not the first one which was cheaper).

They then cancelled other orders with different codes for some people but not for others.

I sorted my issue out eventually but took 4 or 5 emails using very basic language to get it fixed.

Service generally is good - they made a mistake and their plan to fix it was beyond what their staff could handle.

Anyway, a couple of days after ordering online, I got a stroppy email from someone at Charles Tyrwhitt to say that the code wasn't for everyone (which is stupid considering that it was everywhere online).
Just because the code was online does not mean the company cascaded it the relative online sites. It is known that people that dont use codes put them up on HDUK, MSE, vouchercodes etc etc.
I bought a couple of shirts online recently using a voucher code. The shirts were cheap, but we're not talking 'steal of the century (two shirts for about £24).

They said that they would honour part of the order, which so happened to be the most expensive part (surprise surprise).
3.2.1 After placing an order, you will receive an email from us acknowledging that we have received your order. Please note that this does not mean that your order has been accepted. Your order constitutes an offer to us to buy a Product. All orders are subject to acceptance by us, and we will confirm such acceptance to you by sending you an e mail that confirms that the Product has been dispatched (the "Dispatch Confirmation"). The contract between us ("Contract") will only be formed when we send you the Dispatch Confirmation.

4.1 If you are contracting as a consumer, you may cancel a Contract at any time within 14 days, beginning on the day after you received the Products. In this case, you will receive a full refund of the price paid for the Products in accordance with our refunds policy.

4.2 To cancel a Contract, you must inform us in writing. You must also return the Product(s) to us immediately and at your own cost and risk. Please take reasonable care of the Products while they are in your possession. This provision does not affect your statutory rights.

I would also like to know how you managed to get 2 shirts from them for £24? Does not seem in line with the normal pricing for their shirts including offers. If it was the similar offer that ukjoel mentions then I think they are well within their rights.

I would also be interested to see the email they sent you regarding the order.

What, exactly, do you think gives them the right to take money for an order that was cancelled some days before it was allegedly dispatched?

  • I concur with many of the posters that Charles Tyrwhitt normally offer great customer service.

Sounds like your experience is an outlier and strange that they have taken money out of your account.

Given their guarantees I can't see any reason why you won't get your money back, but that doesn't mean it should have happened.

If anyone cannot understand that simple sentence as written there is precious little chance they will come to understand it even if it's recast in baby talk.
