With TalkTalk for broadband, main home computer is about 3 years old I guess, installed with Windows 7. We've got a Netgear router. Internet connection has been getting progressively slower over the last few weeks and at present we have no connection at all. It just hangs, when trying to access websites.
My boys' laptops can still connect OK and other devices such as X-box, Sky+, it's just the main computer that can't. Troubleshooting diagnostics say everything's working OK, OH has tried reinstalling the operating system but this hasn't made any difference.
Would be very grateful if anybody has an idea what the problem could be?

Is the main computer connected via wifi or ethernet? If wifi, I'd suggest trying it with an ethernet cable if possible to see if the problem persists.
Elaborate on 'no connection at all' pleaseHow do I add a signature?0 -
Thanks Figment...
Its connected via ethernet.
And by no connection - you can open IE and the homepage address appears in the box (or any other address you choose) but it just has a blank screen apart from the toolbars and the little 'please wait while I load' disc just keeps revolving and revolving, so nothing happening, it doesn't even come up with a 'cannot connect to this page' timeout.Over futile odds

Click Start. In the search box type CMD. Next right click on CMD in the Programs list and click the left mouse button on Run As Administrator
A command prompt will open. Click inside the box then type :
ping bbc.co.uk
and press the enter key. Write down what appears in the window on the first line after:
Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.241.131] with 32 bytes of data:
Next type:
ping 212.58.241.131
and press the enter key. Write down what appears on the first line after:
Pinging 212.58.241.131 with 32 bytes of data:
Type exit to close the command window and post back with the repliesHow do I add a signature?0 -

Thanks folks, will get hubby on it in the morning when he comes home from work. You wouldn't think I work on a computer all day (graphic designer) and can manipulate certain software so well that I have people phoning me asking 'how do you do this?' 'Do that?' Ask me how a computer operates, I don't have a clue!Over futile odds
