    Hi all

We,re child free today, so still in jim-jams ;)

    But have been OS,ing -

Stripped turkey, 2 big bags in the freezer, bones in SC for stock.
I even used the left over bacon from the top of the turkey to make quiches...

Can,t remember who suggested it, but thank you - I have set up my sistercas fund online £31 per month starting 1st Jan.

Dinner tonight will be last of the gammon with cauliflower cheese.

Quick question - can I slice and freeze red cabbage raw? Bought a big one and have half left still.

Before the kids went to their Dads I sat them down and explained, that although I love Christmas, this will be our last 'kiddy' Christmas, as they are all mid to late teens now. We all agreed that although its great to reveive a mountain of prezzies, its mostly rubbish, so next year will be alot different and we shall just have one thoughtful gift each and one for a child in need.

The news that Sky is going was less well received, I got nagged back into it last year (50% off though) - it costs £40 per month so bye bye sky, hello £40 per month extra off the CC....

BB as DD would say - am 'well jell' - wish I was creative - and your DD is such a cutie.

Sorry for the long post - have a fab day all xxx

    Hi all

I logged off early yesterday, so playing catch-up with yesterday's thread as well as today's.:o

Hester thanks for the headband instructions :A – gosh, easy peasy! I shall have a go when Daisy has gone home.;)

Goldiegirl I read – and enjoyed – Eagle of the Ninth many years ago; have fun reading it.:o I'm resisting downloading anything else til I get through the stuff I already have; I don't often get time to read, and when I do, I'm usually too tired to take in what I'm reading. Currently tackling The Portrait of Dorian Gray.:o

Cat thanks, the plumbers' visit wasn't as bad as it could have been, as Mr LW was here. I was still pretty shaky by the end of the day; but that's just me, I have a total fear of having men in my house. Still, we now have hot water and warmth, so mission accomplished!:T

Tru thanks for the gen on Windows 8; we always wait to get other users' feed back before changing to a new operating system – thus we were able to completely avoid the travesty called Vista.:D Currently we have three computers using Windows 7 and one old and venerable one still on XP.:D

FS best of luck to your DD for her appointment; it sounds most unpleasant, I hope to goodness it does what it's meant to do for her.:o

Flutterby I never heard of a council not taking glassware for recycling – that's ridiculous!:( We have to put ours in a separate box from the rest of the recycling – glass goes in the blue box, other stuff goes in the pink sack – but that's all.:o I think Elf'n'Safety is being used as an excuse far too often these days.

Bargainbird (((HUG))) It's the other way round in our house; it's me that doesn't like socialising. I will make the effort though. even though I find it very difficult, if Mr LW wants to go out, on the proviso that if I feel the need to withdraw from the conversation, he covers for me. But I have officially diagnosed Social Phobia – what's your DH's reason?:(

Ooh – it's time I took Daisy for her walk; she's curled up on the sofa beside me at the mo, but I want to get her taken out and get back before it starts to drop dark.;) It's her last night with us tonight; I have no more bookings currently, so we'll have to see what the New Year brings.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Afternoon all, cold and damp here today and Jack has a bad tummy again, hasn't eaten his breakfast so will starve him today. He seems OK in himself so hopefully it will pass. BBird I know how you feel my DH doesn't like socialising, he does come to big things like weddings but not much else, I've got used to it now but do find it upsetting at times. Love your DD's headband and wrist warmers, she is so pretty. Off to London tomorrow to see my niece's new baby, DD is coming with me and my sister, brother and my other niece. Always fun with my family , we are all noisy and jolly. Hugs to all in need esp Jools and unclebryn. LW glad you now have heat
and hot water again. Have a good evening all and stay warm. We've just given in and put heating on early.:)

Hi everyone, hope you are all well & had a good Christmas.
Continuing hugs for Jools & Unclebryn.

I've been ill for a week, first the d&v with a days respite before getting an awful cold.Luckily it was Xmas day afternoon before I started sniffling so got the meal for 10 out of the way ok,though I still didnt feel like eating much. The turkey was lovely though, did it the phil vickery way.

DGD came on Boxing Day to unwrap all her pressies, and my brother, niece & GNephew came too and we swapped gifts which was lovely with the 2 littlies.

    *Rant coming up*-
Just been to do a shop at Sainsburys and had to go back because we bought a Bistro meal deal which didnt go thru as the deal so cost us an extra £7:mad:.It was advertised as a meal,a dessert and wine, picked all 3 up from the same section.I asked to see the manager because it isn't the first time its happened.Customer Services looked at what I'd got and said it was the trifle I'd picked up.We went to look and it was very misleading, she said they'd just' happened' to put the trifles there because the shelves were full & it was on the plan.Like I said you don't go to M&s for their deal and have to read small print, its all there in its own section. The manager was lovely and admitted it was misleading, the lady on CS said we were the 5th lot to bring them back ,but what happens if youre too far away to go back,or on public transport ? An extra £7 in their pockets every time-it's sharp practise in my mind.Phew sorry rant over.

Not been anywhere really as I was feeling so rough.DS2 & GF have gone away for New Year now,so won't see them till Wed.DGD is coming to stay overnight tomorrow so her Mum can go out.She is snotty anyway so wont catch mine :rotfl:Oh I tella lie-had an hour at the sales yesterday and bought a coat I've admired for ages in marks, near enough half price :T

BBird-nice headband (and pretty DD).And it only took you an hour:eek:,well you know me and crochet :D-took me about 6 weeks to do a thin twirly scarf:o

Sending much love to you all,LW glad youre nice and warm now.x

Yep it's totally ridiculous that the council won't take glass. I think it's cos a binman got cut badly by a glass item so they stopped it. But now all people do is put glass in the rubbish if they are too lazy to take it to recycle bins so doesn't solve the issue. I wish we had separate box for it. I don't get much glass so it's a pain having to store it til I take it to bins, and then I usually forget so they rattle round in my boot for weeks :rotfl:.

I had nice afternoon with my friend. Got a few bargains in Matalan sale, 3 wall canvases for £3 each :).

Home now, and shattered! Chill out evening planned, with leftovers for tea.

    Have a good evening all

  • Good Evening everyone just popped back home for an hour to put some heating on and bring some of my pressies home from DDs .I seem to get more every year and I keep telling them as much as I love being appreciated I really do not need so many boxes of choccies, biscuits, shampoos ,hair conditioner and four more pairs of slippers. The older grandchildren seem to think that Grandma's go through a pair of slippers every month.I have three pairs left from last year not used yet :):) I know they mean well, and I love the bones of them but I think I may have to drop slight hints to their Mums as I am knee deep in blooming slippers :):)
While I think of it, apart from scones, any ideas what we can use some clotted cream up with as I would hate to have to bin it by Sunday.Only so many scones one can eat as well :):)
The boys have been brilliant and I have had lots of playtime fun with them and we have played most of the board games .I left DD about 10 minutes ago helping the smallest boy Mikey with his Lego set that looks really complicated.I am hoping its fixed by the time I get back shortly,Lego is OK but very fiddly for my fingers.
My lymphodema nurse has ordered me a new sleeve for my arm, and this afternoon I went with DD to B&Qs where she needed to buy a new Loo cistern.apparently you have to buy the complete bit including pan and seat even though its only her square box cistern that was leaking, how wasteful is that .Anyroad she managed to get the whole lot at a reduced price so it wasn't too bad and I gave her my builder Keiths no. and he is coming to fix it next Wednesday, luckily she has two loos in her house.I am off to London tomorrow night to a 50th birthday bash, then another 'do' on New Years Eve.it will be nice to get back to my routine after New Year
My stair-lift is definitely being fitted on the 4th January and my builder starts on my adapted bathroom on the 7th,so January will be quite a productive month .With all the workmen in, I will have to get extra bacon and a few extra rolls in I am a great believer in the power of a bacon buttie for the working chap :):)
Well time to whizz off again as I am back at youngest DDs for a few more days.If I can't scrounge some computer time off anyone there may I wish everyone here a Healthy and Peaceful New Year and may you have all you wish for in the coming months
    love to you all

Add the clotted cream to a rice pudding :p
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    evening all
had a massive blitz on the downstairs today. spent 3 hours doing the kitchen and utility...we had a visitor in the night ..a cat came in and wee'd in the utility room. bleugh. i knew it wasnt my cat as ive caught the cat trying to get in the cat flap more than once. i have bleached every where, walls, shelves the lot. so it smells beautiful now and every inch is sparkling.
saw the really sad news that another two children have been killed on the roads, made me go cold as it was very near to me.
had cheesy pasta for tea and that used the last of the bacon that we had for christmas. think that i wont need to buy much in this weeks shop so i will hold onto the money for as long as i can.
went into town and opened a budget account with the post office. i used to save car tax stamps a long time ago and this card replaces these. put £10 on it and seeing as its due next dec i thought that was a good start. will start my asda card soon.
got a mountain of ironing to do as havent done any since christmas eve. thats my evening mapped out then
    have a good evening all

    Evening everyone.

I'm in my usual Friday state of tiredness - it's crazy that two days of work make me so tired. I really don't know how I managed to work full time for so long.

I've put a load of washing on, will browse on here for a while and then read my Kindle.

LameWolf I try not to buy too many Kindle books, but sometimes an offer comes along which I can't resist if it's a book that I know I'd like. At least unread books don't clutter up the house when they are Kindle books!
