well it would seem that constant complaining pays off.

new brakes fitted, cam belt fitted, new handbrake fitted, new battery fitted, cleaned, valeted, filled to the brim with petrol and £200 compensation recieved.

That seems like a result to me. Well done.
That's my mutt in the picture above.

Hope they fitted new tensioners & waterpump at the same time as the belt or you will be in for a nasty shock a few months down the line.

Didn't expect such a happy ending to that tale, congratulations and good job!

edit: re above post, I'd certainly hope they'd fit above mentioned parts whilst doing the belt - even a rank amateur like myself knows they should be done when accessible (i.e when the cambelt's off.)

Might be worth checking with them for your peace of mind but considering they have given fair compensation in £ and fuel (and know you're willing to complain if things are wrong,) I'd imagine a competent mechanic would have done the lot.

Most cars are not neglected. The ones I buy certainly are not. High mileage yes. Because thats what I look for. A well cared for and perfect example of the car i want. With above average miles and a below average price.

Same here, I have the servicing records as long as my arm for my Honda. Items to check are cost savers.... in my case I have Honda services and PARTS... going back 180,000 miles.
Each time the car needed anything the best was used and everything was replaced early.
Tyres were replaced with premium tyres... a good indication of how well looked after a car is. All this is recorded in about 100 pages (The service records are a good inch thick)....

Compensation. Your unlikely to get anything. You should not have taken delivery of the car without the work being done.
I'd have agreed, seems we would both have been wrong in this instance but ... just because you cross the road without looking once doesn't mean you'll be lucky again!
Clean the brakes and it sits there for 3 weeks and they need freeing again.

Usually a good drive clears the rust off the brakes.
Not sure the OP understands why the brake was sticking on?

    @brunettegirl.

Well done :D ..... glad it worked out. Hope it lasts... but next time hopefully you learned something.... it could easily have gone the other way.

The MOT certificate should bare the correct registration mark of the vehicle.
The police will ANPR the car and pull it up if it is not in that reg.
I would insist they produce a certificate bearing that registration mark or you are going to spend a lot of hours in the back of a traffic police car explaining the situation.
    Be happy...;)
