Hi,

Not sure where to post this. Please move thread if it is in the wrong section.

Does anybody know what the price is for 1Litre, 4Litre or 5 Litre of Mobil 1 0w-40 motor oil at Costco? Wondering if it is worth my while to join Costco to buy the oil or should I just go to Halfords.

Thanks.

the most expensive version i can see on the halfords webiste is castrol oil, 4l for just under £40 - i'm sure costco would be cheaper, but not enough on theta one item to save the membership fee.

i think costco is great and you'll get lots of other bargains, but for just one item that's no so expensive, it probably isn't worth it

    Hello kawan2

I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, where it should get more views and responses.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Not sure about Costco but it’s readily available on ebay in the range £7 to 9 per litre.

Before Christmas I got a 20l can for under £100 off ebay but the seller doesn’t seem to be there anymore

Be careful of buying oil off Ebay. Ebay is full of scummy sellers who'll sell you anything. Worst possible thing is you could end up with a can of used oil. Second worst thing is a can of oil that has either/or been poorly stored and has been kept a while. I saw some cheap oil at chepstow market, but as castrol print filling dates on their bottles, I saw the oil was a few years old and therefore not worth buying. Oil has a relatively short shelf life.

Other things to not buy off Ebay include durex condoms (lots of fakes that snap), and gilette mach 3 razor blades (again cheap but fakes).

    That's cheap.

I used to work for Mobil when it was about £20 in the shops. We were allowed to buy it for a fiver. So it may be worth chatting up some Mobil/Esso employees to see if the deal's still on :)
    Can I help?

According to Mobil shelf life of all oils 5 years - if you have not used it in that time why did you buy it?

Thanks for all the replies. Don't know any Esso/Mobil employees so that option is out. Do know a relative who has costco membership so may try that.

    Cheers.
