They're first-timers, non-tech savy and looking to buy a Laptop for the first time - and use the internet. Maximum price of £250.

Recommendations and places to buy much appreciated.

I'm not allowed to post links as I have too few posts, but I reckon if they want to buy new then either the Asus that ebuyer are selling for 250 quid or the Lenovo Ideapad (amazon - £199).

Neither has an optical drive however -so if they are hoping to play their DVDs I'd recommend something like the refurbished lenovo think pads that Morgan sells for about £140.

How about Windows 8? Isn't that the 'new Vista'? (i.e. - crap).

I heard the jury is still out on that.
