Can't backup to anyjthing except floppy

Options
I've had this PC (Dell P 4 with Win XP, ZA and NAV) for 2 years and the last time I backed up I did it to a CD Rom. This was many months ago. I know, I know - it should be more frequent.

I decided to do it to-day and find the only option given in the Backup wizard is to save to the A drive. My C, D and E drives still show in ' My computer'.

The only major changes have been a new printer, various spyware problems, now sorted and maybe a couple of System restores

When I installed the Epson printer it appeared to create a F drive which had an icon in the tray saying it was 'safe to remove' Clicking on it said Mass USB storage point and Epson . I did remove it.

Help ! How can get back the ability to back up to the D drive?

I suspect your Epson has an in-built camera card reader which'll be why it's appearing as a drive.

What back up program are you using?

    1. F Drive
You are right. It's an Epson R300 and does have the card reader on the printer. Does this mean that by deleting the F Drive it created, I have lost the ability to put the photo card straight into the printer? Can I restore it by running the installation disc again? I usually transfer straight to the PC from the digital camera, but the direct card thing might be useful.

    2 Back up

I use the Microsoft wizard. Programmes/Accessories /Tools/Back up. I run XP Home. It has worked before. Can you advise how best to back up to CD? I appreciate the help.

If you power off your printer (or disconnect the USB lead) and then reconnect, XP should pick-up the flash drive again. If not, as you say, just rerun the printer installation disc.

NTBACKUP does not directly support writing to CD, however XP stores files that have been dragged to the CD icon in Explorer within a spool folder. By forcing ntbackup to save the backup file to the spool folder, XP will write the data directly to CD-RW.

In ntbackup, on the Backup tab, under Backup media or file name:, browse to the following location:

    C:\documents and settings\[user name]\Local Settings\ Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\Backup.bkf

Substitute [user name] for the name of the currently logged on account.

Start the backup and when it is complete, right-click on the CD icon in Explorer and select "Write these files to CD". The size of the backup file must not exceed the capacity of the CD.

Alternatively, perform the backup to another partition and just drag/drop the files onto the CD icon in Explorer then write the file to CD.

Wow! It's way to late in the day for me to get my head round that complex sounding procedure. I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
