For amusement I just plugged my Huawei O2 3G dongle into my £80 Ployer Bird 8 tablet (running ICS) and it just connected and a 3G/signal strength icons appeared. whoopee do I hear you say?

Now I was expecting to scour the internet for days looking for drivers or hacks or custom roms. Nope it just did it. I have not modded the tablet at all, just out the box. To someone used to MS Windows, this is very unnatural, bordering on witchcraft!

The corporate contract sim in the dongle is unlimited so really good news to me

As long as tethering is allowed on the unlimited data plan, then you're all good.

Appreciate the kind spirited warning :)

But its a USB dongle normally used on a laptop, with a data only sim in it. I just connected it via USB to the Tablet's USB port so I don't suppose the network will care, its still all internet.

I have never tried, but do you really need drivers, hacks etc. for using a USB dongle with a Windows PC?
Not that I am a fan or Microsoft, but most of (all?) my USB devices are plug&play

I think the OP means the dongle worked in his Android tablet, my netbook is linux mint and not all dongles worked in the USB without adjustment of settings.

Does with mine, and its a very common model. Had to install the whole Huawei package with drivers. A copy is provided in the dongle's memory stick area to get you started.

Anytime I want to connect laptop I have to bring up the connection package and use it to run the dongle otherwise nothing happens.

On the tablet it just connected itself in the background!
