Orange

Could someone advise. My Orange home phone stopped working on 20Dec12. I call Orange on mobile and they said was the BT fault which would be fixed by 27Dec12. I called on this day but they said it was the weather and it can't be fixed until 12Jan13. All the time by Orange broadband is working fine.

I don't seem to get any useful information from Orange except its a BT fault in the area, Orange seem less than urgent to get it fixed.

Is there anything I can do about. ?

    Switch to BT?

Orange are only a trade customer of BT, so cannot do anything other than report te fault and let BT sort it out. You'll get slightly more info as a BT-direct customer, but as only BT Openreach can fix the problem, you'll remain stuck.

Make sure you ask for a credit for the downtime, it's not automatically credited.
5 working days is a a typical fault repair time on a residential contract. An area fault may take much longer, especially over the holiday period.
