If delivery is going to take longer then Matalan ought to remove the 3-5 days claim from their website and put on the correct information.
Given that the failure is with Matalan, there is no guarantee that next day delivery would have arrived in time either.
That said, they clearly left it so late to order that there was no time to deal with any problems that may arise. A £5 voucher seems fair enough to me.
Although the Matalan website does stateChristmas Delivery

Yes, but it does go on to give the revised delivery schedule, talking into account Christmas, Boxing and New Years days - the bank holidays. This wouldn't have affected the poster.

Hello MSE Jamie, hundreds of people here have placed orders with a company called The Norfolk Hamper Company. In many cases, orders were placed months ago, and it has been the experience of the majority of people here that goods have not been received (or substandard / incorrect orders have been sent); emails to the company have not been replied to; and requests for cancellation and refunds, apart from in a handful of cases, have been completely ignored.
This is a major fiasco; items were promised to be delivered in the first week of December, for use as gifts, and people have been systematically lied to as to when their orders were being sent out.
At present there is a thread with over 3000 comments from disatisfied MSE users, many of whom have had Christmas ruined and have had no sign of either their goods or their money (over £100 in many cases, with people having to go out and buy replacement gifts if they could afford it, or go without Christmas if they couldn't).
This is a site based on consumer rights; will Martin and MSE step up and offer support and assistance to hundreds of its loyal members?

I ordered my husband the new XBox release of Halo 4 off Amazon for Christmas. I paid £4.99 for express guaranteed delivery on a specific date. It actually arrived a day late. I emailed them and got a £5.99 refund immediately. I was very impressed with that. Thankfully though the day late was my last day in the office so I was still there to pick up the package and give it to my husband on Christmas day.
I would say to anybody buying online to make sure it is a UK company wherever possible, or at least that you're buying it via a UK company (like Ebay or Amazon) so that you are able to claim refunds if anything goes wrong.0 -
i ordered tshirts from street shirts back in november and after 44 days had to put in a paypal dispute as i was one day off not being able to get my money back. i had not birthday present (4th december) or christmas presents. the company never got back to me yet sent several emails that they send everyone saying my order will be here by christmas.
companies must know if they will struggle with orders so why dont they just raise their hands and admit that we wont get our presents by christmas and give us a refund so we can go else where for the present0
