Would agree with most of the posts, two points, the lamps fitted, are they
60 watt SES.? as manufacturers recommend that they are fitted in an up-right position (if fitted the other way the heat will reduce the lamp life)

Many years ago I was called out to a similar problem as yours. The customer had bought the 'show house' the lights are left on for long periods for sales staff. The lamp holder of each fitting had become overheated and pitted which will reduce the lamp life.

    Good luck

    Hi, Thanks for the reply,

The kitchen ones are 25w candle bulbs with a small screw in fitting and the lounge ones are 60w golf ball shape, normal size bayonet fitting. The 25w ones have to be fitted downwards because of the light fitting and the others are fitted upwards.

The holders aren't pitted though, so it must be the bulbs as all you helpful people have said. :)

    Any recomms on best manufacturer?
  • I would suggest a couple of things

if they are spots in the kitchen these can be changed to halogen (a 40w ses will give a lot worse light than a 35w halogen (12v selv- tranny types)

    use philips or osram lamps.
    baldly going on...
