    'You only live once'

Is text slang and rife all over twitter
:j That is a new one for me.

It is true though, as the saying goes, Don't sweat the small stuff :)

I don't have any problem with this one.

I am who am I am - to coin a phrase :D. An individual. A unique being.

I'm also one half of a couple.

In addition, I can be lazy ;)

So, I might well refer to the person who is the other half of 'my' couple as "the other half" [of the couple].

    There's your logical explanation.

Since you've already made your views on the matter very obvious, you probably won't be interested in knowing that - for this quasi-Vulcan rationalist - the idea of 'my other half' isn't just about him being the other half of 'a couple'.

He is the 'other half' of what makes me whole.

[All that said, you have to remember that I have the ability to argue with myself, so it's not all romantic and gooey and cuddly]:o

    That is dialect linked.

Up here in the North East, of is normal not have.

A bit like lots of gravy and tea at dinner time :D

Now, you see I don't think it is mostly dialect - it's down to people not actually knowing that the 've' at the end of should've etc actually is a shortened version of 'have'.
    :hello:

I know and so do my children and most of my family but we still say of, rarely 've. Unless I am typing a work document for Southerners of course ;)

Sorry, but that's missing the point.

"Lots of gravy" and "lots of tea" are both correct. Assuming that you like "lots of" both. Or either.

    "Would of" is wrong

    "Would have" is correct.

"Would've" etc (which sounds like "would of" etc ) probably causes the confusion.

However, as someone have already said, the "would of"/ "would have" (etc) debate is a losing battle. Alas.

But why not just say 'Cyril' 'John' 'Fred' ??

If you want to make a statement, wouldn't 'the only man I've ever loved' aka tomiev or 'the one without whom I cannot breathe' aka towwicb

'My other half' is just lame - call him/her by their name

I meant that having lots of gravy and having tea instead of dinner were Northern things also :rotfl:
