pay as you go gas with SSE
Hi all,
I moved into a new property around a month back now and decided to stay with Scottish and Southern Energy as the previous tenant was also with them, all i was required to do was change them into my name etc which i did the day i moved in.
Since i moved in i have noticed my gas meter has took lots of money off me when i top up my gas, for instance the last time i topped up i was £5 into emergency credit and the meter had been out of credit for roughly 2 days, i put £7 on the meter and noticed i only got £2.49 gas and i was still in the emergency. i had noticed this the time before after putting £20's on and only getting £6 credit and my £5 emergency.
to me this seems rather odd, why am i being charged ridiculous amounts for being in my emergency?
Can anyone shed any light on what i should do and if it is possible to get some kind of refund?
i have not had any problems with the electric meter with £10 lasting on average 12 days and thats with the same supplier.
Cheers
Danniuk

What does the display read when you cycle through the options? There might still be one for debt and you may need to get the supplier out to reset the meter.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

well im currently redundant due to my old employer having to shut down the garage i worked at, I have survived off my savings until 3 weeks ago when i had to start claiming JSA and have not received a penny to date off them, so money was/is an issue at the time so i have been living in emergency (not recommended), I am due to start a new job on the 2nd January as a carer so aim to switch over to quarterly billing.
I've had a scan through the meter and cannot find anything regarding debt, i just have the one page which says 0:00 for gas and emergency credit used. i will have to call them asap to find out if a meter reset will be needed.0 -

Many thanks! i will start taking meter readings and i will give a comparison website a try to see what supplier maybe best for me, Ebico sounds very appealing at the moment after having a scan online, i had never heard of them before though. cheers again

are you paying a daily standing charge?
when you cycle through the options on the meter there is one that tells you if you are.
I have a prepayment meter and you aren't charged for using the emergency credit.
Did you get a new gas card when you moved in. I'm with SSE and even though the electric key stayed the same they sent me a new gas card when I moved in.0 -
While you're using the emergency credit, the standing charge is not deducted so when you top up, the emergency credit is repaid, then the standing charge is deducted for the days you were in the emergency credit. This can leave you with less than you might think left from your top-up.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
