New washing machine but which one?

Am driving myself nuts with this so i need some help :D

Bearings have gone in the Hotpoint (yay! never buy another one!)

Narrowed it down to:

LG F1481TD http://www.johnlewis.com/231664421/Product.aspx

Bosch Excell http://www.johnlewis.com/231614930/Product.aspx?SearchTerm=RecentlyViewedList

Samsung http://www.johnlewis.com/231649965/Product.aspx

Anyone with any experiences of these good or bad?

Main criteria are:
I can't wait 2 weeks for an engineer in the event of a breakdown.
Noise (you should hear that Hotpoint! Maybe most of you can:rotfl:)
Budget: Sub £500 ish
Wash times: Hotpoint 7kg does a 40 degree load in 1hr 30.

Any other suggestions welcome: 2 adults, 2 teenagers & a 10 yr old.
Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine. :)

Personally would say Bosch out of those three simply because if there is a problem you will probably have less time waiting to get it fixed.

Not always true, but BSG's repair service is generally better than most.

Bosch every time. Samsung is a relatively new brand in the w/m market.

I've been bunging Zanussi in our BTL's for about 3 years, and I've never had a problem with them yet. Most the kitchens are completely Zanussi appliances now.

Last ones I bought, I think I paid £420 for a washer/drier from John Lewis.

  • I recently bought a Zanussi ZWG6161P from John Lewis for about £260 and 2 year warranty thrown in. I think it is a brilliant spec machine with its 1600rpm spin!! And its slimline to boot. I also got a matching Zanussi condenser dryer for about £240 again from JL. They are wonderful kit. The washer at 1600rpm sounds like a banshee, but clothes come out nearly dry, besides you can lower the spin if you so wish. I think all the machines you posted are overpriced and not as technically good as the Zanussi, can any of them spin to 1600rpm, if not forget it!

Bosch, but only after considering an AEG and dismissing Miele.
  • When I last bought one I went for an LG because I particularly like the reliability of direct drive drums. They offer a 10 year warranty on the drum which suggests that they expect it to last well.
  • I bought a Bosch Exxcel machine two months ago to replace a 17 year old Zanussi. Fabulous machine. Quiet enough, 40 degree wash with 1400 spin takes one hour exactly, 8kg load. Love it!

I wanted a Miele but just couldn't justify spending £1000 compare to £470 for the Bosch (plus the £50 cashback deal that was running at the time from Bosch).

    Hi

If you can stretch a little more then I would have to say this Miele washing machine. At £689 it is more than your budget but it comes with a 5 year guarantee, will out last the others by at least a factor of 2, will wash better than the others and all round just far better value for money.

  • I suggest a cheaper basic Zanussi , you dont need fancy progs which the other have, its just fancy words to make you spend more. you only need quickwash, an everyday prog for the other stuff.

I am looking for a new one, but for a 2 person flat, checking argos for that, but usually i go to JL.for my own house.
  • Hi,

Last time our washing machine failed (last one was a Bosch, that lasted 3 years) I ended up going for a seimens... not sure of the model number now but is an iq500 http://www.johnlewis.com/231615129/Product.aspx#BVRRWidgetID

I know they are pretty new to the uk at least for kitchen appliances, I have had the dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine (< that was the order they were replaced in) all came with long guarantees/warranties as standard...

However in my opinion they seem to be well made machines. As a household of 6 they take a lot of use, my last Bosch WM started to sound like an old machine after 4 months... New machine is just under a year old but still acts like it did the first day it was fitted (and has had more use than the Bosch due to an addition to the family!) I probably average 2/3 washes a day. The only gripe I have is that you cannot select 50 degree wash (only relevant for school shirts that sometimes need a hotter wash... 60 degrees doesn't actually seem to harm them as I found out in the end!)

tbh I was really disappointed with the Bosch machine (although I was also thrilled to be rid of a Hotpoint machine!) It wasn't cheap, I look after my appliances, I really did *hope* it would have lasted longer.

I know this isn't actually answering your question but thought the above might be useful.
