Uniformed cops go to virtually every call, then it may move up the line. What you may consider a CID matter might not be seen that way by police.

Many uniformed officers are of higher rank than CID.

For example, a uniformed Inspector is of higher rank than a Detective Sargeant in the CID.

If the infomation is that important, just tell the police - they'll get the right and appropriate officer to deal with it. It's for them to decide who is the correct officer, not the general public.

  • In my area CID will generally deal with: Burglaries, robberies, serious sexual assaults, serious assaults (GBH and above) and very high value thefts. There are also specialist, non-uniformed, departments that deal with child abuse, domestic violence, car crime and intelligence departments amongst others. All fraud, unless ongoing, is now dealt with by ActionFraud.

It's not clear if you're reporting something or want advice? Even if you are reporting any of the above in 99% of cases you will be debriefed by a uniformed officer in the first instance who will hand over the case to CID or another specialist departments if appropriate.
