My DLA claim

I have received DLA for past 4 years on mental health and was awarded low care and low mobility,it runs out in feb 2013 and been sent forms to fill out to continue to receive DLA,my carer filled it out and they received it 14th dec and letter stated it could take up to 8 weeks,by 20th dec I received another letter stating they can't give me an answer yet as they have sent letter to my consultant/gp,why do this and what do they ask or what do they want,do they send my appication for DLA to my doctor, any help on this will be great
Thanks

They do this because they need a professional opinion on your care and mobility needs. They will not send your claim form to the doctor, they will send a form asking certain questions. This booklet gives an overview of what is asked - page 8 onwards.

They ask for an 'opinion'. If you fail, be sure to request a copy of the report as it might like mine contain one or two lined answers!!
I failed to inform my Psychiatrist DLA would contact him. It might be worth saying to the Doc he/she should expect a form through from the DLA.

Does it go to the GP you have detailed in the form or does any GP in the practice fill out the form based on your details that are held? (always wondered this)

That is down to the individual practice, there is no rule on the subject.
