Many humans like to wind a dog up with chants of "Bath Time"; "Who's gonna have a bathy wathy den?" - and find it hilarious to watch a dog hide - most dogs do not like it, end of.

My old boy bit my dad cos he was faffing around with the bathy wathy stuff; if he came home after rolling in fox doings, he was told bath, warm buckets, hsampoo, rinse, no messing, get it over and done with - he hated it, but just put up with it; could obviously tell the mood I was in so never played me up.

As for cutting and grooming - other than matted hair around goose grass stickies - I wouldn't know where to start.

I have always just stood them in the bath or tub table and used a warm water shower head to wet thru, then turn off shower to shampoo, then back on to rinse. Not always easy, but most dogs will just tend to stand frozen to the spot looking incredibly sad! :(

I never 'shower' past their neck, as they seem to really struggle with this - a damp sponge and lots of reassurance is best ime.

And yes as soon as they find freedom they will shake, and roll, and shake, and roll about on the carpet snorting and so on ;)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Wait til you have to brush his teeth ! dont have a dog now but when i did, well i'd have a toothbrush loaded up with special doggy toothpaste and as i approached dog with toothbrush, holding his gob slightly open, his both eyes would focus on the approaching brush and just as i was about to brush, his tongue would fly out and lick the toothpaste off ! Yep..it was tricky !
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Get some doggy shampoo

I use baby shampoo. Really gentle and smells divine.

I also actually shower my two as opposed to bathing them. It is quicker and less messy.

Our male doggie doesn't like the bath at all - he doesn't like water in general and avoids puddles etc.

For him, we use Bob Martin rinse free shampoo and doggie wipes.

Female doggie loves the bath, loves rolling around on the towel afterwards, soaking my girls, who have the responsibility of bathing her and having a brush.

Brushing teeth for both of them is proving difficult but we need to master this hygiene task.

If you get your dog's head wet, he will immediately start shaking the water off, which makes the whole experience a little harder, so keep his head dry .. I don't go any further than just behind the ears.

For trimming around the ears and eyes the scissors have to be nice and sharp, but with rounded ends so you don't accidentally stab your dog.

If you want your dog to be extremely clean, Ive always found it best to wet, shampoo, rinse, shampoo again and rinse again.

Don't shampoo him frantically, turn the experience into a slow massage to help him feel more relaxed, and talk to him in a calm voice.

The idea of a rubber bathmat as mentioned above is a good idea, as without it, they slip and slide all over the place.
Some days I wake up Grumpy ... Other days I let him lie in.

My staff x lab eats the toothpaste as I'm trying to clean his teeth - but my jack russell x border terrier well I NEVER go near her teeth with a toothbrush - I'm a secretary and I need my fingers to type with!:D

I feed raw so the dogs get great teeth from all that gnawing - but generally I would recommend feeding something like a raw chicken wing or some tough chews (natural chews like pizzle, not the pathetic stuff like Dentastix that my two would swallow with two munches) to work plaque off the teeth. Wild animals don't brush their teeth, they have diets that do the job for them :)

It was great fun when I worked in a petshop to see customer's faces when you told them what it was. The funniest had to be two young lads 'sword fighting' with some of the extra long pizzle (they stretch it before they dry it into about 3' long pieces) - we didn't bother telling them at first, and the horror when we smugly informed them what they'd been playing with was hilarious :D
