When signing into Skype I am given the option of merging my Live Account (eg Hotmail and Messenger) and my skype account together partly because Live Messenger is being shut down in favour of Skype.

Does anyone know what username you end up with after you merge?

Example:
if you just sign in with you Live account (eg firstname@hotmail.com) and choose Don't merge with an existing skype account, you are given a skype name of live:firstname

if you merge a Live account (eg firstname@hotmail.com) and a Skype ID (eg name.12), what does your skype name become? is it live:firstmane or does it remain name.12 ?

  • You will keep your skype username AS IS. All you will be doing by signing in with the ms account is bringing in contacts etc. See here (you can even Unmerge the accounts).

    In answer to your question!!.....

If you have a Skype account with the username Shelia Smith and a hotmail account with the name William Oskins and then merge the two; When signing into skype with either your hotmail account username and password or signing in with your skype username and password you will been seen and known as your skype username (i.e. Shelia Smith) - William Oskins will only be used as a sign-in so that you can utilise hotmail stuff and contacts. Your profile will still state Shelia Smith is online. So you can just sign in as Shelia if you want only skype or you can sign-in as William Oskins and utilise the hotmail stuff.
