Of course as youngster i tried to buy booze underage...difference was if i got refused i took it on the chin and didn't spit at people or give them abuse, like those in the OP

That is tne point though MU, the teens in the op are not the normal, now or in the past.

It generally works quite well, although the shops I go into know I'm definitely over the age of 18.

some teenagers are respectful enough but others are absolute horrors, i dont blame you for refusing, teenagers will do this sort of thing to impress there mates especially when there in a group and the person there asking is on there own they feel as if they can intimidate people. next time maybe you could report them to staff as they harassing customers entering the store.
Or confront them, most teens these days are soft and when confronted will often turn and run or walk away, if you show you wont be intimidated they will usually back off!

You only see a small minority out and about on the streets, each to their own, but myself my OH and friends were always playing video games inside (We still do even though i just turned 21!).

When me and OH were 19 we got asked outside the local shop to buy a teen cigs, funny thing is we looked younger than her because we are both 5ft and 5ft 4. i was ID'ed for a 15 game when i was 18, i don't have a chance of buying cigs!

Don't the kids think the shop keepers see them ask people? I was asked in the shop if I was asked to buy cigs.
