Hi all,

Looking to go back to swimming and called the local pool to see what prices are likely to be.

Over £6 per swim of which £1.60 per hour is parking.

£30 per month or £300 per year for a season ticket.

When has this got all so expensive? Feel really down as I was looking forward to going back (used to compete 15 years ago) but at these prices will never be able to afford it and even if I could I could not justify it as with two young kids there are always other things that are more important....

You don't say how much they are ... Is a monthly membership more affordable?
  • Hmm - I did put the prices in.

£30 per month or £300 per year for a season ticket.

This is stupid money and something I cannot justify spending.

    £30 a month sound ok
  • It sounds extortionate for me as does over £6 per swim......
  • How often do you plan to go? My local pool is £115 per year but it's an unheated outdoor one so probably not to everyone's taste :rotfl:. But if you go 3 times a week, £300 seems pretty good value.

£30 a month is a £1 a day.. even if you go 15 days its only £2 a swim, stilll fairly cheap in my eyes. and im a tightwad

    1v100 £15/300
  • But it's still £30 a month or £300 per year.

I must be really tight as I think this is extortionate......

Have you any idea how much it costs to run and maintain a swimming pool?!

Local leisure centre charges £2.75 for an adult swim. Under 5s go free.

I think £6 is expensive though. The membership sounds like a better deal, but only if you have time to use it enough.

Is there maybe another pool you haven't thought of? That might end up costing you more money and time travelling though, so that could be off-putting.

Or have you considered taking up another sport? I play tennis (beginner, only started in 2011), it's really fun and I only play £130 a year. Have met some nice people through it as well.

I recently went to a David Lloyd club for a day, and I thought it was fantastic. However it was expensive, 20 miles from home and I just wouldn't have the time to take advantage of the facilities.

I pay £63 for a members only club I can use all the facilities, pool, gym, sauna, jakuzi)! The reason I am happy to pay this is the club is 2 mins away from the school and halfway home, also it is near my work (sometimes i am the only person in the pool, which is priceless!) So no extra petrol. I did go to the public pool price £25 (swim only membership)but it is a distance away and as I go everyday I would spend £10 per week (£40 a month on petrol) The public pool was also extremely busy all the time, we were like sardines! So I am more than happy to pay the price i am paying. I think you have to weigh all the factors in before you choose.
