E.on payment.

Options
Hi,

long story short: I switched my energy supplier for a fixed contract at the end of October. E.on had not mentioned my direct debit was not paying off my first bill but basically was a quarter behind. when I got the final bill I expected a couple of quid. it turned out to be just shy of £200.

I phoned and explained I couldn't pay two energy bills in one Month (they took almost 25 days after supply had switched to send me the final Bill and I was already paying my first new direct debit l). I offered to pay in full as soon as my next pay check came in. this is usually the 26th. E.on set it all up and the advisor assured me I could pay on Dec. 26th. this morning i try to pay. all their lines are shut. I cant pay online either as the system says no.

I'll phone first thing tomorrow and pay -and I've emailed to say I tried and could not pay.

my question is will this affect my credit file (late payment?) and what are my rights? I asked the advisor twice if they would be open on boxing day and she said yes. she had even tried to make the due date in January but I wanted it out of the way.

I'm very worried on what should be a happy day :( thanks!

I apolgise for awful grammar but im on a mobile and its very difficult to type properly!

8.45am on a BH is a bit early, try again later. E.On report accounts to the credit agencies so there is a possibility that it may affect your credit file if they deem this a late payment or an agreement to pay, you will need to check.

When was your bill date? I think they would likely give you say 6-8 weeks before reporting late payments.

You really need to take the responsibility of checking that your DD payments match your own usage. Computers are notoriously inaccurate for predicting the ever changing and evolving lifestyle pattern of human beings, and allowing them to do so for any period generally works out rather expensive.

    Hi 123Lachlan321

I'm sorry you weren't able to contact us on Boxing Day. We did have a skeleton staff on duty but not all lines were open. It was mainly some of the Call Centres who were in. They were working reduced hours too.

Not sure why you weren't able to make an online payment. We weren't advised of any website problems for that day.

When a supply changes hands, we need to wait for the new supplier to send us the readings they intend to use to open their account. We use the same readings to close the old account. This makes sure you're only charged once for the same energy.

Sometimes there's a delay receiving the readings. This may have happened with your account.

If we set up a payment arrangement for the final bill with a payment date of 26 December 12, paying a day late won't affect our debt procedures.

    Hope this is of interest.
